Cosmic Veil

In English, when there are no clouds in the sky, no rain, no snow, no fog, or other obstructing weather, it's called "clear skies". But in the daytime even clear skies hide the cosmos behind them, restricting the field of view of the inhabitants of the earth to just a tiny sliver of space. Conversely, you'll hear "it's difficult to see at night", but in reality you can see vastly more at night than you can in the day - just look up. When I was walking by Miyashita Park it's long design with ripling arches reminded me of a giant ribbon high above, blowing in the wind. I wanted to use the image of a world-spanning ribbon, painted by the colors of sunset, to illustrate the duality of this cosmic veil. 英語では、空に雲がなく、雨も雪も霧もなく、他の天候による遮りもない状態を「clear skies」と呼びます。しかし昼間は、晴天でさえも背後に宇宙を隠してしまい、地球の住人たちの視野をほんのわずかな空間に制限してしまいます。逆に「夜の見えづらさ」とよく聴くけど、実際には昼間よりもはるかに多くのものが見えるのです——ただ見上げればよいです。 宮下公園を歩くたび、その長くうねるアーチ状のデザインは、上空で風に揺れる巨大なリボンのようだと感じました。夕焼けの色で彩られた世界を一周するリボンのイメージを用いて、この宇宙のベールの二重性を表現したかったです。
