The Wonder of Falling Rain
This generative system takes rainfall as its primary atmospheric reference. Rain is understood here as a form of continuous drawing: thousands of minor events falling through space, accumulating briefly, dispersing, and vanishing. The image behaves like precipitation over the city, never still, with repeating patterns. The visual field is constructed from dense, granular pixels that stream, scatter, and react with one another. Vertical and diagonal flows evoke falling rain, while horizontal strata suggest wind shear and the way rainfall fractures against architecture. Rather than moving objects across the screen, the work animates time itself through color. Subtle shifts of color rotate across static pixels, producing the sensation of motion without displacement. An approach deeply rooted in the lost art of color cycling, a technique born from early digital and arcade systems, where limited memory required artists to simulate movement by rotating color values instead of redrawing forms. Rain travels trough urban environments much like pixels; passing through and never settling. At a distance, the work reads as a shifting mass of illumination; up close, it reveals thousands of independent pixels acting in loose coordination. This duality echoes rainfall itself: an enveloping phenomenon composed of innumerable singular drops.
